Micaceous Iron oxide (MIO)
Micaceous Iron oxide (SIMONO® MIO) known also as specular Hematite and flaky Hematite is a natural mineral ore that consist mainly of Fe2O3. It differs in the form and shape from the well-known iron oxide that are used as a color pigments. It shows a flaky, lamellar structure, the colour is dark grey with a metallic sheen. Like the other forms of iron oxide, is a very inert material. Moreover It is insoluble in water, organic solvents and alkalis, and is only slightly soluble in very strong acids at elevated temperatures. It is unreactive to most chemicals and is heat stable up to its melting point of over 1000 oC. It is non-toxic, non-oxidizing, noncorrosive and non-flammable. It has been successfully used in various industries such as paints & coatings, welding electrodes, friction materials, drilling fluids and plastic & polymer.
